Aqua Coordinator Director

The Workout Club is seeking an Aqua Coordinator Director who is a self-starter, energetic, health & fitness minded, and loves to help others feel better, move better, live better.

Job Summary:

This position will oversee all aspects of the Aquatics Program for a designated Workout Club location, including hiring, recruiting, scheduling, and training new aquatic staff. This includes, but is not limited to lifeguards, aerobics classes, swimming lessons and pool maintenance as well as constantly developing and growing the success of the aquatic department.

The qualified candidate is responsible to drive aquatics revenue via swim lessons, swim team rentals and specialty training programs.

The primary goal of the Aquatics Manager is to help create and manage safe, fun, and highly profitable aquatics programming. The AM is responsible to drive and increase all aquatics revenue. The Manager of Aquatics is highly interactive with members and employees.  You must ensure overall motivation and educational guidance to all aquatics participants to assist in retention and generate revenue. You will provide energy and assistance in creating an environment of success in the club.  You will be responsible for implementing aquatics programming which are safe, fun, trendy, and functional and promote ongoing member participation retention reinforcing the club’s mission and culture in the minds and actions of all employees is of critical importance.  The goal is to steadily and appropriately escalate our consistently high standards of customer service.

Job Description Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire, train, terminate (when necessary) and maintain Aquatic Center staff (Swim Instructors, Water Safety Instructors, Lifeguards, and Pool Attendants).
  • Personally, be in the water to conduct a minimum of ten classes a week of swim lessons.
  • Create and implement all marketing for the Aquatics Department.
  • Act as liaison with the Rays swim team
  • Prepare and maintain staff schedules for pool staff.
  • Train all instructors to teach safe and effective classes
  • Train all instructors to help, assist, motivate and retain all members
  • Drive all revenue for swim lessons, swim teams, pool rental and special events and other water related specialty programs
  • Create and produce all computer-generated pool notices, program flyers and registration forms or whatever else is needed to administer all swimming lesson programs.
  • Ensure Front Desk and all other departments are made aware of all Aquatic Center activities, i.e., birthday parties, lesson registrations, swim team registrations, pool closings, etc.
  •  Develop, monitor, and maintain a budget for all Aquatic Center Programs.
  • Ensure all Aquatic Center staff employees are up to date on CPR, Lifeguard, First Aid and WSI Certifications.
  • Responsible for organizing and scheduling all group classes as needed
  • Maintain equipment, pool chemistry, mechanical systems, and equipment storage areas
  • Prepare and discuss weekly aquatic report with General Manager and Regional Program Director
  • Promote all classes and events internally and externally
  • Ability to perform all duties as required for group instructors
  • Organizes and conducts all staff and club meetings and events
  • Develop and maintain records and computer data bases for: email addresses, liability waivers, and swim lesson skills for each participant.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with members and staff
  • Ensures that all required documentation (daily reports, checklists, etc.) are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations
  • Maintain website information for Aquatics.
  • Develop and monitor Daily Task Log and Communication Log.
  • Develop and maintain an Aquatic Center Operations Manual.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment in the pool areas and surrounding locker rooms (not the Adult Locker rooms).
  • Order all chemical supplies for all facilities. Ensure the pool chemicals are balanced daily and in compliance with New Hampshire State Laws.
  • Ensure all clubs’ chemical and cleaning supplies are stocked; ensure a weekly inventory is done.
  • Ensure that all clubs’ chemical readings are logged correctly daily.
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and cleaned along with Facilities Manager and Club GM.
  • Ensure the pool staff has the proper equipment to perform the needed maintenance.
  • Along with Maintenance department, oversee mechanical operation of pump room. Know how to run, maintain, and perform minor repairs for the following equipment: filters, chemtrol units, chemical pumps, heater, water levelers, and flow meters.
  •  Inspect pump room daily to ensure proper functioning of all equipment.
  •  Ensure the pump room is kept neat and orderly.
  •  Be responsible for pool water and air temperature and quality.
  • Along with Maintenance department, ensure that that all Chemtrol and Dehumidification systems are fully working at top efficiency with the assistance of the maintenance staff.
  • Full responsibility for the automated software and programs that control all pool operations.
  • Keep the pool office clean with assistance of staff.
  •  Maintain sure at that all staff has current CPO certification.

  • Provide input in developing strategies to support club goals and objectives
  • Develop and build a team atmosphere among staff and department
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from members

Job Requirements: 

  • Available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Must hold current CPR, First Aid and CPO certification
  • Ability to hire, manage and motivate the aquatic’s staff
  • Strong customer service abilities
  • A minimum of two years of experience as an Aquatics Director
  • A proven track record to drive revenue and manage expenses
  • College degree in Sports Management or Exercise Science

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to read, write, and speak clearly in English
  • Bending, kneeling, and repetitive arm movement
  • Ability to be in the water for long periods
  • Comfortable with working for a long period of time in a warm, chlorinated Aquatic Center environment
  • Ability to lift or move at least 50lbs

Work Environment:

  • The work environment is usually hot and humid. Air quality within indoor pools may be reduced due to increased levels of chloramines and ammonia compounds produced from the disinfection of pool water.
  • Able to project voice over pool noise, to ensure all instructions can be heard.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually high.
