Swimming Lessons
For All ages and all levels
Looking for Swim Lessons in Londonderry?
Our Londonderry gym offers swim lessons for everyone—from babies as young as 6 months to adults of all ages. Our enthusiastic instructors are trained in a variety of teaching methods to help swimmers feel confident, safe, and supported in the water.
We believe learning to swim should be fun and stress-free. Whether you’re just getting started or building on existing skills, our program is designed to meet you where you are. Safety is a big focus, and we work to build comfort in the water while introducing proper technique along the way.
Each swimmer progresses at their own pace, and it’s totally normal to spend more than one session in the same level. Our lessons cover water safety basics and gradually introduce all four competitive strokes through a clear, step-by-step approach.

Swimming Lesson FAQs
What is a swimming assessment?
A swimming assessment is a brief evaluation by our aquatic director or an experienced instructor to determine a swimmer’s comfort and skill level before enrolling in lessons.
It includes a discussion about prior experience, concerns, and goals, followed by a check of basic water skills such as safe pool entry and exit, floating, gliding, basic kicks and arm movements, submerging, and swimming short distances. if possible.
Ask our aquatics team how you can sign up for a FREE swim assessment!
Do you offer advanced assessments or programs for competitive swimmers?
Yes, we offer swimming assessments for all skill levels including:
- Swimming a set distance to evaluate skill, speed, and endurance
- Stroke technique evaluation (e.g., freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke)
- Brief fitness or flexibility checks if relevant to class placement
Why should my child enroll in swimming lessons?
Signing up for swimming lessons is more than fun — it’s a life skill! Swimming builds water safety, confidence, strength, and coordination, while helping kids (and adults) feel secure around pools, lakes, and beaches.
Swimming also encourages healthy habits, social connection, and teamwork, and gives families peace of mind so they can truly enjoy time in the water.
What are the different swimming levels for kids?
Our program includes multiple swim levels to support kids at every stage. Children start based on their age and an instructor’s evaluation, and once they’ve mastered the key skills, we’ll guide them to the next. Coming to class each week helps them build confidence, strengthen their skills, and keep making progress in the water.
Parent/Child
Ages 6 months – 3 years
30 minutes
This class introduces basic water skills to both parents and children. Parents learn safe techniques for working with their child in the water, including how to provide proper support and encourage active participation. A caregiver accompanies the child in the water, and swim diapers are required.
Guppies |Â Ages 2.5 – 4 years
30 minutes
Designed for children who have completed a Parent & Child class, this program helps them advance their skills to the next level. Children enjoy more freedom in the water as they participate without being held, while remaining within arm’s reach of their caregiver. The focus is on buoyancy, breath control, kicking, scooping, and building confidence, all while keeping it fun. Swim diapers are required.
Starfish |Â Preschool (Ages 4 & 5)
30 minutes
This class introduces essential aquatic skills that children will continue to build as they advance through the Preschool Aquatics and Learn-to-Swim programs. It also encourages a positive attitude toward water and teaches safe practices. Ideal for children who are nervous or have limited water experience, the class provides as much support as needed to help each swimmer develop their skills.
Minnows |Â Preschool 2
30 minutes
Preschool 2 builds on basic aquatic skills, with swimmers beginning to perform some skills at a slightly more advanced level and with less support. Participants continue practicing simultaneous and alternating arm and leg movements on both the front and back to improve proficiency in learning formal strokes. Children should be comfortable in the water, able to listen well, and work effectively in a group setting. Support is provided as needed for all skills.
Dolphins |Â Preschool 3
30 minutes
Preschool 3 focuses on increasing swimmers’ proficiency in previously learned skills. Ideally, children will have completed Preschool 2 or been evaluated by an instructor before enrolling. In this class, swimmers work on improving coordination and control of both simultaneous and alternating arm and leg movements. Children at this level begin building the confidence to swim independently without support.
Beginner | Level 1
30 minutes
Not comfortable in the water? No swimming lesson experience? This class is designed for ages 6 and up who may not feel comfortable in or around the water. Participants may be hesitant to get their faces wet or go underwater and may not yet be able to float for 5 to 10 seconds. Swimmers will learn basic water skills, including submerging, floating, and gliding.
Advanced Beginner | Level 2
45 minutes
This class is for swimmers who are beginning to swim independently. Participants should be comfortable going underwater and getting their faces wet, and be able to perform some skills on their own. The focus is on streamlined glides on both the front and back, learning the dolphin kick, and incorporating breathing while swimming. Swimmers at this level should be able to swim a short distance without assistance.
Intermediate | Level 3
This class is for swimmers who can independently swim 15 to 20 yards and use rotary breathing. Skills include practicing rotary breathing while swimming freestyle across the pool. Participants should also be able to float and swim 15 to 20 yards on their backs. Breaststroke arm and leg movements will be introduced separately, and swimmers will also be introduced to butterfly arm movements.
Pre-Team | Levels 4, 5 & 6
This class is for swimmers who are refining their stroke technique. Participants will learn to coordinate breaststroke arms and legs while adding breathing, as well as coordinate butterfly arms and legs with breathing. To enroll, swimmers should be able to swim at least one length of the pool using freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke. The class also focuses on building endurance, with swimmers working toward completing 50 yards of both freestyle and backstroke.
How often are lessons?
Our group swim lessons run once a week for 6 weeks. perfect for consistency while still fitting into busy family schedules. Prefer one-on-one time? Private lessons are arranged directly between you and the instructor for ultimate flexibility.
Can my child miss a lesson?
For the best experience, we encourage children to attend every class. If they need to miss a lesson, please let us know at least 72 hours in advance, and we’ll gladly provide a credit toward a future session.
What if we’re running late for a swimming lesson?
Please plan to arrive 5–10 minutes early so your child has time to settle in before class begins. Arriving late may mean missing important activities, and we may not be able to accommodate late arrivals to keep classes running smoothly and safely for all swimmers.
Can I sign up for lessons if my child isn't potty-trained?
Yes! Children who aren’t potty-trained are still welcome to join our swim lessons. For everyone’s safety and comfort, we do ask that little swimmers wear a snug-fitting swim diaper in the pool. Please bring one for each lesson to help keep the water clean and enjoyable for all. If you have any questions about getting your child ready, our aquatics team will be glad to help.
Can I leave the aquatics center while my child is in lessons?
To ensure the safety and well-being of every swimmer, parents or caregivers must remain at the aquatics center during their child’s lesson. This way, you’re close by if your child needs support before, after, or in the event of an emergency.
What if my child is sick?
If your child has a fever or isn’t feeling well, please keep them home to rest and to help prevent the spread of illness.
